Time to bring down those suitcases from the loft!
Here are a few details for the next exchange visit, coming up soon.
FRIDAY 11th September
6am departure from the Sandringham Sports Centre Car Park – Armada Way DT1 2TN
Gates open from 5.30am
If you wish to come by car, you will be able to leave your vehicle safely parked in their car park for the entire weekend at no cost. Please arrive from 5.30am so that you can load bags onto the coach and settle back for an extra snooze.
8.30am Poole to Cherbourg Brittany Ferries crossing departs
DON'T FORGET YOUR PASSPORTS!
You will be able to buy food, including breakfast and/or lunch, on the boat at reasonable prices or you're welcome to pack your own picnic to enjoy on board. You will also have reclining seats booked for your comfort.
4pm approximately: arrival in Bayeux
There will be a coach stop at The Campanile Hotel for those staying there and the final coach stop is at the Parking Ornano in central Bayeux where everyone else will be met by their French HOSTS.
Events for the weekend programme will follow, but we can reveal that the chief excursion will be to CAEN.
MONDAY 14th September
Our hosts/Bayeux friends will take us with our cases to The Battle of Normandy Museum car park. We will then walk across the road to the British Cemetery.
9am A short Service of Commemoration. We will then load cases and board our coach.
10am coach departure from the cemetery
First stop: the E.Leclerc Supermarket for 45 minutes
You can buy picnic lunches if you desire and a few goodies to bring home. Please remember to bring a large carrier Bag for Life (only ONE) with your name on, for storage on the coach.
Also, please note there are restrictions on what you can bring back to the UK, ie currently no meat, dairy, fish and animal products, or fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds. See https://www.gov.uk/bringing-food-into-great-britain for details.
Second stop: the La Cité de la Mer, Cherbourg, arriving approximately midday
We have booked tickets for you all at La Cité de la Mer (no extra cost). There is a great diversity of things to see and do there – have a look at their website https://www.citedelamer.com . You may wish to take a picnic or reserve a place in their restaurant, (see website), or save your appetite for the ferry trip home.
4pm depart from La Cité de la Mer
6.15pm Cherbourg to Poole Brittany Ferries crossing departs
9.45pm expected arrival at Poole
11.15pm expected arrival in Dorchester to collect your cars
