A wonderful weekend of twinning friendship, both civic and social!

Wow! What an amazing weekend, and even the weather was kind to us!
There were many new members on both sides and so new friendships were made in addition to the firming up of long-standing relationships. We were delighted to be accompanied by Dorchester's Mayor, Cllr Les Fry, and Mayoress, Julie Fry, and the town clerk Charmaine Denny for a busy and positive weekend of civic matters.
After a delightful civic reception on Saturday 12th, which included a display of traditional Normandy clog dancing, we had leisure time to explore the town and surrounding area before the celebration meal in the evening.
Sunday was dedicated to a visit to Caen, including William the Conqueror's Abbaye aux Hommes; an exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Queen Elizabeth II and 1,000 years of history; and a guided tour of Caen Castle as the afternoon sunshine grew hotter and hotter!
Monday saw a visit to the military cemetery at Bayeux to pay our respects. This is always such a moving event. After this, we managed to fit in a whirl around a supermarché before heading off to Cherbourg for a visit to the amazing Cité de la Mer. Somehow, three hours there were not enough!
